The Newlight project focused on the development of textile products for both indoor and outdoor use, combining a variety of functions, namely: light and/or color effects, low energy consumption, lightweight, and flexibility.
It was a co-promotion project under the QREN program, involving the companies Castros and Têxteis Penedo, as well as two entities from the SCT: the Center for Nanotechnology and Technical, Functional, and Intelligent Materials (CeNTI) and the Technological Center for the Textile and Clothing Industries (CITEVE).

The main results of this project include:

Integration of conductive threads into fabrics through a weaving process based on a pre-existing method owned by the promoter Penedo;

Integration of LED strips into a crochet-type structure through a weaving process based on a pre-existing method at promoter Penedo;

• 1 indoor and 1 outdoor structure with integrated LEDs;
• 1 indoor and 1 outdoor structure with incorporated electroluminescent devices;
• 1 indoor and 1 outdoor structure with incorporated OLED devices;
• 1 indoor and 1 outdoor structure with incorporated optical fibers;
• indoor structure with incorporated electrochromic devices;
• 1 indoor structure with incorporated photovoltaic panels.
