Another NSRF project of relevant importance is Newlight, which is still in progress and represents a total investment of more than 1,475,000 euros. It aims to develop a system for changing light and colour effects on textiles for indoor and outdoor use. It was funded by NSRF under the Competitiveness Factors Operational Program, amounting to 965,000 euros from the European Regional Development Fund.

The participants in the project, ending in March 2013, are the promoter Têxteis Penedo, SA, and the co-promoters Castros - Iluminações Festivas, SA, CeNTI – a Nanotechnology and Technical, Functional and Smart Materials Centre - and Citeve – Technological Centre for the Portuguese Textile and Clothing Industries.
