Plágio Não Compensa
A empresa Castros Iluminações Festivas, SA viu finalmente no passado dia 9 de Novembro, a justiça a dar-lhe razão, num processo cuja origem remonta ao 2007, e que diz respeito ao plágio por parte da concorrência de várias peças da sua autoria e com patente registada no Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial.
Um processo que acabou por se prolongar após a primeira decisão proferida pelo Tribunal Judicial da Comarca de Braga em Dezembro de 2007, em que a empresa bracarense Justino Castro & José Martins, Lda., foi inicialmente sentenciada a retirar com a maior brevidade possível as peças plagiadas das ruas, devido a diversas contestações apresentadas posteriormente por parte dos Réus.
Certo é que as referidas cópias quase fiéis de desenhos/modelos da autora do processo, que foram utilizadas por diversas vezes, em diferentes anos como parte da iluminação natalícia da cidade em questão, vieram a resultar numa sentença final que compromete a empresa bracarense, além de pagar uma indemnização, a entregar definitiva e impreterivelmente as peças em questão à empresa lesada, até ao final do presente ano.
Os responsáveis pela Castros SA, sentem-se satisfeitos com este desfecho uma vez que esta acção assentou, acima de tudo, no salvaguardar de uma das mais-valias que a empresa garante aos seus clientes nacionais e internacionais: a inovação e originalidade das peças expostas, cuja concepção e desenvolvimento resulta sempre do trabalho minucioso e contínuo do seu gabinete criativo.
Foi essa a razão pela qual a Castros SA, actual líder de mercado no sector das iluminações festivas, se tornou na terceira empresa portuguesa no ranking de desenhos/modelos registados a nível comunitário, segundo dados do IHMI (Instituto de Harmonização do Mercado Interno – 2010). Investimento e profissionalismo que a empresa sediada em Espinho lamentavelmente vê inúmeras vezes a ser desvalorizado, com a produção despreocupada e desrespeitosa de cópias por parte de concorrentes nacionais e estrangeiros, que num rasgo de oportunismo, e na ausência de um departamento de concepção e desenvolvimento próprio e devidamente qualificado, se limitam a duplicar e a usar as suas criações.
Casos como este acabam por ser do interesse público, pois vão ao encontro de um tema cada vez mais recorrente nos dias que correm em que é cada vez mais difícil proteger e comprovar a autoria, quer no âmbito da propriedade intelectual, quer da industrial. Mesmo assim, a apropriação da propriedade de outrem continua a ser ilegal, e as empresas que se regem pelas boas práticas não deveriam nunca ser prejudicadas por isso!
"Christmas, Light and Color" - Photography Contest
Prolonging and Prizing the Magic of The Season: "Christmas, Light and Color " in Espinho until March 18
Opened last 26th February, at the Gallery of the Espinho Parish Council, a photo exhibition portraying the theme of "Christmas, Light and Color ", which will be open until the 18th of March. The works displayed represent the dozens of participations in the fourth edition of a photography competition organized annually by Castros Iluminações Festivas, SA. The contest in question had its genesis in the intention of provoking a close and more accurate look at Portuguese urban centers, and the all the spaces of our everyday life, which gained a new dimension, more luminous and magical, with the Christmas lights.
The inauguration was marked by an award ceremony that distinguished the three best works. The third prize was assigned to António Marciano for the photograph "Arrows of Light in Rossio”, but the photographer could not be present at the event. In second place, with the work “Christmas trees”, was João Paulo Martins, whose award was presented by one of the administrators of Castros SA, Dr. Jorge Castro. “Lisbon Portal”, was the winning photo of this year, and Anabela Luís Dias was delighted to received the first prize from the hands of Dr. Leonor Fonseca, in representation of Espinho’s City Hall. Both winners highlighted the importance that the work of Castros SA has for them and others that live or visit the Lisbon downtown and other historical centers and ended their speeches by praising the initiative of the company.
Even before the end of the ceremony, it was up to Dr. António José Castro, also administrator of Castros, the responsibility to say a few words of encouragement as well as thanking the distinct guests present at the Parish of Espinho, the Castros "Alchemists" and all participants in this initiative which from year to year, has had a growing number of tenderers!
Training in Motivation
On the 26 of February, will be held at the premises of Castros SA a training program directed to superior technicians, which purpose, as the name implies, is to disseminate the best methods and attitudes that help to boost motivation. The program will be guided by the world's number one Business Coaching firm.
LED - Milan 2010: an award with an Italian accent
Amongst the international creative excellence, Castros’ designers came from Milan with a winning design. Nuvole, was one of the 30 winning projects in a competition which aim was to transform, during the holiday season, the referred city in a scenic open area, without neglecting details of sustainability environmental, energy savings, creativity, innovation and design! Our "cloud of light" was a success thanks to the support and contribution of the whole company.

Since 2009 we are referenced by IPMEI (a Portuguese Institute that Supports Small and Medium Enterprises and Innovation)as part of the companies that position themselves as the engine of national economy in different sectors, for its qualities of performance and risk profile, pursuing growth strategies and competitive leadership! A deserved status, which commends us, but at same time, reminds us that although we are on track, is still only a mere achievement in the journey that will lead us to achieve our ideal of excellence.
